Speakers

David Climie, Vice President, Investor Relations & Corporate Development, Sierra Wireless Inc.
David has more than 30 years of experience in Investor Relations, M&A, Strategic Planning, and Communications. During his career, he has managed Investor Relations for five Canadian public companies, including large-cap and small-cap businesses. David has worked on more than twenty M&A transactions including takeovers, proxy battles, secondary offerings and private placements. He is passionate about creating shareholder value through strong communications with the buy-side and sell-side in North America. He has a Bachelor in Commerce degree, a Masters in Journalism, and has completed the ICD.D director program. He is currently a member of the CIRI BC Chapter Executive and a NIRI member in the US.

Julia Stamberger, CEO/Chair, Co-founder, The Planting Hope Company
Julia sets the vision and drives all elements forward to turn that vision into reality, including pulling the pieces together to deliver on key goals including product development, sales, investment, and marketing strategy. Julia is a perpetual innovator, with a 20-year career developing new products, business models, and strategies. She has directly created and launched myriad brands as well as being instrumental in the development and advancement of multiple successful food & beverage brands. In 2016, Julia partnered with several like-minded food & beverage entrepreneurs to launch Spinning Wheel Brands, now The Planting Hope Company Inc. Our founding management team saw a need for real nutrition and sustainability in areas of plant-based food, building meaningful brands around three impact missions: Nutrition, Sustainability, and Representation. Julia was named one of 2020 Crain’s Chicago Business Notable Entrepreneurs and in 2020 inducted into the Exceptional Women Awardees. Julia is a frequent judge/ panelist for entrepreneurship competitions and classes, and is dedicated to mentoring entrepreneurs, especially women in food. She was one of the first graduating classes at pioneering Illinois Math & Science Academy. She attended Miami University of Ohio for undergrad, graduating with a BS in Marketing & Economics + BA in Creative Writing, with minors in International Business, Women’s Studies, & French, and received her MBA from Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management's one year program in 2002.

Barbara Zvan, President & Chief Executive Officer, University Pension Plan
Barbara Zvan is UPP’s inaugural President and Chief Executive Officer and is responsible for leading UPP’s plan’s administration and the investment of its assets, working with the Board of Trustees to meet the plan’s goals to deliver a secure, stable retirement income to our members. Barb is known for her efforts to bring institutional strength to complex challenges and forge new collaborative pathways for innovation and growth. Formerly the Chief Risk and Strategy Officer for the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, Barb is recognized as a leading voice on sustainable investing and an ambassador for defined benefit pensions, Barb serves on the boards of various global institutions and associations focused on pension management, risk and responsible investing, including the Global Risk Institute, Responsible Investment Association and the advisory board of the Institute of Sustainable Finance at the Smith School of Business. She was appointed to the Government of Canada’s Expert Panel on Sustainable Finance, is a member of the Advisory Committee for the new ‘Investing to Address Climate Change’ Charter, is an inaugural member of the Sustainable Finance Action Council. Barb played a significant role in creating the G7 Investor Leadership Network. She holds a Master Degree in Math and Statistics from the University of Waterloo and a Bachelor of Science from McMaster University. She is a fellow of the C.D. Howe Institute, a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors, a Fellow of Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA) and a Fellow of Society of Actuaries (FSA).
