Speakers

Carmen Velasquez. Director of Responsible Investment, AIMCo
Carmen Velasquez joined AIMCo in 2020 and is currently the Director of Responsible Investment. She is passionate about energy and the transition to the low-carbon economy. Her work focuses on ESG integration across asset classes, climate-related analysis and disclosure, stewardship & advocacy, and stakeholder communications and reporting.

Prior to joining AIMCo, Carmen spent more than 20 years in the energy industry in various front office, consulting and academic roles. Her expertise includes fundamentals modelling and price forecasting across the energy spectrum of oil, natural gas and electricity. She has held senior roles with Darkhorse Analytics, University of Alberta, IHS Markit and BP and has had the opportunity to work in Edmonton, Calgary, Houston and Singapore. Carmen holds a BComm from the University of Calgary.

David Hughes. Vice President of investor Relations, Imperial Oil
Dave Hughes was appointed to Vice President, Investor Relations at Imperial Oil in 2017. Dave joined Imperial Oil in 1989 as a systems analyst in Toronto, where he supported refinery capital projects. He has since held a range of technical, supervisory and management positions within the company’s upstream, downstream and corporate groups. His depth and management, and commercial pipeline work. Mr. Hughes’ career includes an international assignment with ExxonMobil, where he spent five years in various downstream roles in Fairfax, Virginia and Houston, Texas. Dave holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Calgary and an MBA degree from Queen’s University.

Patrick Bryden, CFA. Analyst, Head of ESG Research, Scotia Capital Inc. - Canada
Patrick Bryden joined Scotiabank GBM in Calgary in 2010 and has worked in the securities industry since 1997. Mr. Bryden became Head of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Research in 2020 and previously ranked first nine times in the annual Brendan Wood International and Greenwich Associates institutional surveys as an energy analyst. Mr. Bryden served on the Natural Gas Expert Group for the Alberta Royalty Review and advised the Province of Alberta on the calibration of its Modernized Royalty Framework. Mr. Bryden further serves on the ESG Working Group of the Government of Alberta; the Research Advisory Council of the Institute for Sustainable Finance, housed at Queen’s University's Smith School of Business; and the ESG Data Working Group for the Canadian Fixed-Income Forum of the Bank of Canada. Mr. Bryden has raised more than $145,000 for the Movember Foundation and Ovarian Cancer Canada in his time at Scotiabank GBM. He has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree from the University of Calgary and was awarded the CFA designation in 2001.

Shauna Mason. Consultant (Moderator)
Shauna Mason is currently consulting in the Environment, Social & Governance (“ESG”) space. Prior thereto was working as a Senior Manager at Deloitte’s Investor Relations and Stakeholder Communications practice. She has 18 years of experience in the energy industry specializing in ESG reporting, corporate communications & investor relations. Shauna is skilled at developing integration communication strategies that engages stakeholders in a meaningful way while enhancing the corporate image. Shauna holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Queen’s University and an Honours Bachelor of Commerce (HBCOM) degree from McMaster University and is a Chartered Governance professional (FCG). Shauna currently sits on the Board for; Altalma Foundation, Energy for All and the Chartered Governance Institute of Canada.
